For hundreds of years, Masada lied untouched. It was “rediscovered” in the mid-1800s. Because of this, and the fact it is in an arid desert overlooking the Dead Sea, the site looks starkly similar as it did 2,000 years ago. The main differences that come to mind is the cable car, the amazing sound and light show, and of course the family that decides to have bar mitzvah in Israel at this historic site, which should be noted is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Now, when I mentioned the cable car in the opening paragraph, that’s key for folks coming on Israel tours that are looking for relaxing ways to see Israel, and of course if you decide on Masada as the site for a memorable bar mitzvah in Israel, it’s something you should opt for – especially before the bar mitzah service. Notwithstanding, after the bar mitzvah boy enters into Jewish manhood, I vote that he should lead the guests down the windy snake path.

Bar Mitzvah for Heroes

The story of Masada is that the Jews, who were escaping the Romans, realized they were doomed, decided to kill themselves than fall into the hands of the Roman army. Because of this, the inhabitants of Masada died as martyrs and are eternally remembered as a people that sacrificed their lives for the land of Israel, the people of Israel, and the Torah of Israel. It is for these reasons that make Masada the spot for an emotional, inspirational bar mitzvah in Israel.

Eitan Tours knows the ins and outs of Israel tours and can take care of all the arrangements for an unforgettable trip to Masada.

Spring is officially here, and tomorrow – being April 1st – puts a further exclamation point that the previous winter season is really behind us (that is in the northern hemisphere). In addition, last week the clocks in Israel “sprung forward” an hour straight onto summer time; that’s GMT plus 2 hours for those counting.

All this means that people planning on Israel tours in the near future are probably thinking shorts, tee shirts and sunglasses to go along with warm temperatures that make Israel a popular tourist destination. But have you given any thought to the snow capped peaks of Mount Hermon? That is no typo and while you might think it is a mistake, it’s not. Keep reading…

Extended Winter on Israel’s Highest Peak

Mount Hermon, Israel’s northern most and highest place in the Golan Heights, is probably the only place in Israel that consistently gets blanketed with snow year-in and year-out. The high altitude, also makes the mountain a hot spot for winter sports, as it plays host to Israel’s lone ski resort. In the winter, many times when the weatherman calls for rainy skies, you can bet he will add in that snow is expected on Mount Hermon.

So when spring comes the temperatures do rise, and while it is true that the snow does melt away into streams leading to the Kinneret (the Sea of Galilee); however, it does not melt fast enough for the snow to disappear in one day. All this means that in early to mid April, one can head up north to the Hermon for a magical Israel tours experience combining the allure of winter with the lovely spring air.

In my previous post, I spoke about pushing off a trip for a bar mitzvah in Israel because of the seasons. Continuing on this train of thought is the question that comes up if your son was born on Pessach (Passover). Do people make a bar mitzvah on this festival?

Besides the point of not eating hametz, leavened products, there really are no restrictions, or any hard and fast rules for that matter, that says the bar mitzvah needs to be on a Shabbat (Saturday). So if you find yourself in this situation, go for it! And of course, if you are planning on some Israel tours, Pessach, and the greater season of spring, is a wonderful time.

Israel Tours in Full Bloom

After a rainy winter the Israel’s beautiful landscape is a gorgeous green interspersed with lovely flowers of all different sizes and colors. And with Pessach right in the middle of it, now is the perfect time to come for Israel tours.

Anywhere you go in Israel, there are wonderful hikes now. Take the Golan Height as an example. This lovely northern region is known to many as sort of a nature’s wonderland. With nice hikes for all levels and ages, anyone can get a firsthand look and breathe in the wonderful air of the holy land. Whether making a bar mitzvah in Israel or just planning on coming for a relaxing holiday vacation, it pays to get in touch with Eitan Tours for some quality advice and tips on the best sites and attractions that meet your needs.

A question that we’re often faced with in the Israel tours business is: our son is turning 13 this winter, but should we postpone the bar mitzvah in Israel celebration until the summer when the weather is nice? And sometimes for whatever reason the seasons are flipped, meaning a family prefers coming in the winter. And while no answer is a one-size-fit answer, many families that I’ve spoken with use very similar approaches in coming to an answer that suits their needs and makes the bar mitzvah in Israel special – and isn’t that what it’s all about?

Before going any further, I’ll take the chance to reiterate that there really is no right or wrong answer for this question and ultimately making a bar mitzvah in Israel is a personal question that every family that is planning Israel tours needs to answer for themselves only.

Bar Miztvah for all Seasons

The good thing about the Torah is that it is read throughout the year, and this means you can bet that whenever you do decide to celebrate, your son will be able to be called up to the Torah. Now, some families respect the long tradition of having the bar mitzvah on the first possible Shabbat (Saturday) after the boy turns 13. But there are instances where it makes sense pushing it off. For example, perhaps your family is spread across the country and the only week where everyone can make it is a holiday weekend. Or let’s say one of the parents is a teacher and cannot take off more than a few days to make a child’s bar mitzvah in Israel.

These are serious questions, albeit exciting question and good questions that people have to deal with. But whenever a date is selected Eitan tours can take care of all your Israel tours worries. With an experienced staff, they can schedule the perfect itinerary to make your son’s bar mitzvah in Israel special – be it in the spring, summer, fall, or winter.

Today, it is where Jews (and non-Jews) congregate to offer their prayers. A well-know tradition is writing a prayer on a piece of paper and placing it in one of the cracks of the old wall. This tradition made the headlines last year when a Jerusalem-based student stole the prayer of President Barack Obama, who was in Israel for a brief visit while campaigning for the White House.

For those who have never been to Jerusalem and are planning on going for a bar mitzvah in Israel, it might seem that it is far away from the center of town, afterall, it is in the Old City.

Israel Tours to the Western Wall

Getting to the Kotel from a centrally-based Jerusalem hotel is easy and on a nice day can be a lovely way to get a first hand look of Jerusalem, the capital of Israel. Most people enter the Old City through Jaffa Gate; it is called this because it faces westwards towards the seaport town of which takes its name from. Going through the impressive gate can be an experience in its own right. Many times there are a few people offering camel rides. From here one can go down through the Arab Shuk or head towards the Jewish Quarter, passing the famous David Citidel museum – an Israel tours must-see attraction for newcomers to Israel. In this museum there are often many interesting exhibits.

Anyways, getting back to the Kotel. One of the things that always makes me smile is seeing a family that comes from overseas to celebrate bar mitzvah in Israel getting ready in the Jewish Quarter to head down to the Kotel. And heading down to the Kotel, one must watch their step because there must be a few hundred steps that lead down to the Kotel.

We begin our three-day army camp of our Israel tour with a group-bonding ropes course that offers an extraordinary combination of unique activities and challenging tasks aimed at building group dynamics.

From here, we continue with a lesson in “Krav Maga” (Close Combat), a military self-defense hand-to-hand combat system developed in Israel. Next, a meeting with the “gun.” We then work together in building our army camp, from the first stake to the final rope.

After a bar-b-cue dinner, we will learn the art of sneaking and camouflaging and practice it amongst the many trees and rocks in the fields of the Golan. Finally, we rest our heads in preparation for an exciting day to follow, which reminds us a bit of our bar mitzvahs.

After a fulfilling shacharis, and wearing our bar mitzvah teffilin, we prepare breakfast. The first lesson of today is about aggressiveness, from the home of the elite units of the IDF. Next, Eitan Tours will teach navigation in groups on the Golan. Our day ends with a third culinary opportunity, as we prepare a traditional bonfire stew.

The final test is a complicated set of missions concluding with a full-combat experience…Paintball! Enjoy a mock war as “trained soldiers,” Finally, rap up the 3-day army camp with a concluding lunch to end this part of our Israel tour!
